Oh Fishel Fam ~ Garden & Craft

DIY Wedding: 5 months til’

Okay, where are we now?… I’m finally cutting my real dress fabric! The bodice pattern I first traced on my coutil by stitching around the pattern pieces. By doing this, I can reference how to lay my pattern on my silk fabrics and help me maximize my material.

I realized what was slowing me down from working on the skirt construction was that I hated that blue not-silver polyester voile. It kept slipping around on me like a mother f* and made life miserable. I spent hours stay stitching around the pattern pieces and finally decided it just wasn’t worth it! So I broke down and purchased a different skirt lining fabric, Cupro, from Joann’s. It was half off at $9 so I got 2 yards and from what I understand is a nice alternative to silk habotai. The perks being it’s very breathable and static free. I am enjoying working with it a lot more, even with having to stay stitch it so it doesn’t warp out of shape from being bias cut.

Finally, I am coming to terms with my main silk georgette being just too orangey and I will attempt to bleach it with my left over hair dying product that I’ve had laying around for a couple years… we will see how that goes.
