Next April I will be happily taking the name Fishel, hence this blog about the life I am making with my future husband!
We got the venue booked very quickly after our engagement and now I am planning on making my wedding dress. I have always known that I wanted to make my dress. I used to watch a lot of “Say Yes to the Dress” in high school so I was looking forward to making my own appointments. I will say for maybe a split second while trying on wedding dresses did I think, “I could just buy this.” But then I remembered we are on a budget and not to mention I already told everyone I am going to sew my dress!
My Maid of Honor came down to Portland in early December to help me try dresses and I’m very thankful for her help! You should bring someone who will tell what’s what, and if that dress makes your boobs look saggy. I made an appointment at BHLDN and I got to try on a dress that I’d been seeing a lot online. I was excited because it looked beautiful on many Reddit brides. The Willowby by Watters Hearst was airy and romantic with a touch of lace. When I finally had it on and stepped in front of the mirror I really disliked it!
I realized it was not the right shape for my body, the plunging neckline made my boobs spill out unflatteringly. I was honestly surprised my first choice didn’t end up working for me. Most of the dresses at BHLDN just didn’t give me the look or feel I was hoping for because they lacked structure, albeit they were creative and pretty on their own. One dress I could not stop touching was an ombre white to pink textured stretch gown, I felt like a soft goose. But lord knows I don’t want to look like a damn bird on my wedding day.
Luckily my second bridal appointment gave me many more choices and inspiration. Originally I thought I wanted a basic A-line silhouette, so I tried a couple frilly tulle dresses. All the fabric felt overwhelming on me. But then my sales associate had me put on fit and flare and trumpet dresses and I was kind of shocked how good they looked and made me feel quite secure, especially in the tummy area because of their corset liner. After that day I was able to continue my search online, refining my searches for a fit & flare skirt, sparkle and lace, strapless but one-shoulder, sweetheart neckline and lo and behold, I eventually found my dream dress on stillwhite for no less than $9,000.
